Week 9
To start this week i looked into redesigning the veterinarian character in accordance with our new theme of "medieval/middle ages".

Vet/medic redesign
I started by looking up styles of veterinarians in medieval times and didn't really find much information on medieval veterinary practices so since the main purpose of the vet is too heal i decided in confidence with the group to change the vet to just a generic medic and when i looked up some reference images for medieval medics the following images shows up.

As you can see all the results for "medieval medic" show plague doctors so i going to design my medic character based on a plague doctor as the bubonic plague happened in 1347 which fits within the timeline of what is considered the "middle ages" making this appropriate for the character design

I followed the inspiration i found online to make this character model based off the concept art i made shown below in order to make the character follow and portray these words/characteristics:
-
Healing
-
doctor
-
calm

I kept the lantern to show that the character is active in the wilderness of kryat healing individuals at all times of the day, i used the staff from one of my concept/inspiration pics as its a staff that shows the symbol of Hermes which is a symbol of healing used since the Caduceus era.

Final 3 player mat designs
Following the style of the hunter mat from last week i created the following art work for the remaining characters and added them to the template i made of the mat and then in used a back design of one of the cards that the art team in kryat designed and printed them on A3 paper cut them to A4 size and then laminated them together so that the mats can be used a lot without getting damage and people can easily write on them if need be and easily clean them again for next use.

Ranger character/model design
Later on this week i started work on the ranger model, i first started looking into medieval ranger reference images and found the following:

These images i have found around "ranger" and a medieval/middle ages theme, if you notice the ranger tends to carry a bow or a sword, however i thought that this was too simuler to the hunter and could mean that the players get easily confused between the two characters during game play.

So, i started to look into guns that were used in medieval times and flintlock pistols seemed to pop up despite being about 100 years after the "middle ages" ended however, due to my dedication to the ranger having a gun as the charge counter i thought it would be a bit jarring to change this design now so this creates some historical inaccuracy but it is only done to keep continuity between the items and art used within the game.

I also looked up different types of ropes that could be used to wrangle creatures and people and the lasso was a popular option this suits the idea of our ranger character as their abilities include lowering capturing requirements of a creatures.

using these images and research for inspiration i created the following concepts shown below:

I then used these concepts above in order to make the polymer clay model, i used the idea of having a cloak and gun and bandanna and the simuler clothing from this concept however, i did not include the sword as i thought that the character did not need another weapon due to carrying a pistol and lasso, i also kept the idea of keeping their identity hidden based on my references images as well as thinking that if this person was wrangling and capturing creatures they may be stealing them from bad people and may want to hide who they are however unlike the thief which i made following Stan lees quote on spider man this character is designed to show the appearance of a female character of colour not only to act as representation of that community but also to show that the game is not entirely historically accurate in hopes that that counter acts the whole timeline mess up with the flintlock.
