Week 10

During this week I started work on what I thought would be my biggest challenge of the project - the Grand beast model however, because at this stage the character had been designed and every feature about it had already been defined unlike with the characters that I had to make from fresh I didn't need to worry about the researching as that had already been down so for this one all I did was make a model that looked like the image below which was kat's updated reeditions of my original designs.

The images below show the process of this models development however the biggest struggle with this design was trying to get the 4 legs to hold the weight of the belly of the beast which due to running blow on resources Wass solid clay unlike the other models that have wire frames and foil inside to fill them up and save on clay.

to combat this I had to put wires through the body connecting it to both the legs then bake just the legs, base and body and then let it cure so that it would not be flimsy band risk being dismantled when I added the rather large and heavy head and neck thins.

Middle mat

After talking to the group about mats for the game and showing off the designs we spoke about the possibility of having an mat in the middle of the board , the purpose of this mat would be to have the deck of cards situated here the trading post (location players can move their models to in order to initiate trade) and the grand beast card.

as you can see I did this mat similar to the player mats however slightly different coloring with the areas of where too put the cards , this was done for two reasons, one time constraints as we are coming close to the end of the project at this point and the fact I wanted this mat to stand out and be different and not focus too much on the background art work as it was kinds bad and rushed.

Coluoured counters

Furthermore, during this week logan suggested to me that the grey plastic used for the counters looked kind of dull so maybe we could add some color top them he suggested which was great idea we looked at different possible colors for the counters for each players until we finally settled on the following colors and reasons:

  • medics cross - red (for the staffs gem and the stereotypical red cross for healthcare)

  • Hunter - orange (because of attacking)

  • thief - black/dark grey (for stealing)

  • ranger - brown and black (pistol colors)
