Kryat

Week 2

During this week we started by each creating some designs/sketches of what we imagined elements of the board game based on Kryat would look like.

Over the weekend separating weeks one and two, I drew some designs of what I imagined the board for the game to look like and then shared my creations with the group.

However, later in the week we looked into scope analysis which is a list of features that the project must have to be successful as well as plan how and when those elements will be completed by. For example with out help in saying which areas each of us felt confident in we were able to create a plan for the following week. (shown below) (week 3)

Scope analysis

In order to create an effective vertical slice, we had to outline what our design would need as the core parts to make it functional and weave out the less important elements from the scope analysis.

Assets list (scope analysis)

  • Board (Split into 4 regions)

  • Cards (Cards of creatures and characters for each region)

  • Miniature figures of players (3D printed)

  • Rule book (stylised book with all lore info and rules for game play)

  • Die (with symbols related to cards?)

  • Marketing (Box, Posters, Trailers?)

Week 2 Continued

Later in the week we got to talking about the current state of the game and compressed the following notes:

  • Don’t see point in board – is movement an important factor?

  • Encounter cards could be used every turn

  • Can still make models of characters (possible expansion)

  • Stats and die to effect game play

  • Dungeon master who tells people where they are????

  • Move deck with randomised movement - when run out of cards game ends? -  Most points win.

  • Give player option to make own rules (possible RPG)

  • 3D printing – what detail is lost?

Need mood boards

card mockup.jpg

The above image is a mock-up of what the setup for the game will look like. The game sees 4 decks of regions in these decks are creature cards for the players to capture, 3D miniatures of characters that get placed in front of the deck of cards that represents the region the layers character is currently in, these movements are dictated by the move/journey cards that tell players a little blurb of events that’s directs them to a region similarly to that of the action cards in the popular board game The Game Of Life ™.

The setup also sees the event cards that prompt the player after every movement with events that happen in the world that could have good or bad consequences for example poachers may attack, items may be claimed or the best one the player encounters an animal which prompts them to catch it. A different sided dice (any other than traditional six) and a symbol dice that gives you capture bonuses.
