Kessler: Sound Design

In terms of music for the game for my game today (10/01/23) I spoke with music students so hopefully one of the components of my game could be a piece of music developed by one of them.

To do the sound design correctly I will need to make sure the music student that I get to work with or outside force whether that be a Drama/acting student or a voice actor I paid is fully kept up to date so they can help me most effectively.

To get the player excited to play the game I imagine having some sort of sound/music/instrumental playing over the main menu screen like Bethesda's Fallout 4 does for example.

At different areas in time ramp upwards and I could then change the environmental elements to echo the sound for example if the music gets a bit intense some debris might fall onto the foreground by the player or an enemy may be attacking the player or the player may have a moment of calm along the side-scrolling map and once they get there the music could go all soft and relaxing to give the player some time to catch their breath.

In terms of sound effects, most of the sound effects in my game are going to be interaction-based so, for example, distant sounds of bits of debris making an impact then louder pieces to show its closer by and different eating sounds and page-turning sound when a player is reading more as well as other environmental things that can be translated to sound.

I also had a cool idea about the end of the game and music because as you can see in the storyboard I made below the player basically takes off in a rocket and once they get up into orbit the ship explodes and reveals a vast load of space debris orbiting the earth that hints towards a space war that had taken place, So basically the idea for the music is to have it be very calm orchestra music because it gives the sense of achievement like you beat the game and then the orchestra gets louder until eventually as the rocket explodes all you hear is the last note from a violin and then nothing, the player watching in complete silence as the camera pulls out to reveal the debris field around the planet

Basically something like this where the violin gets louder and louder until eventually, all you hear is that, last cord then silence.

lastly, I love the idea of voice acting so I would like to fully voice my character during the parts of the game where the player looks at different bits of lore, which I could do myself, however, due to trying to sound professional it may be best for me to find someone to either hire or to find someone in the drama/acting department of Winchester university to collaborate with me on this project for exposure/credit.
