ESRB Ratings and Target Audience
Entertainment Software Rating Board rating
DESCRIPTION
This page looks at different ESRB rating and my target audience and what ESRB rating ill be aiming to receive on this game from the Entertainment Software Rating Board. this rating and target will influence my design choices for later parts of design.
Before I decided to consider what ESRB rating I wanted to look at all the possible option for different ESRB ratings and what they meant/included to get that rating so I looked back and used the information I learned in one of our workshops.
which was the following information:
ESRB Ratings

eC – (Early childhood), no material parents would find inappropriate.

E (everyone) – may contain fantasy, cartoon or mild violence, and infrequent use of mild language.

E10 (everyone 10+) – as above, with more suggestive themes.

T (teen) – may contain violence, suggestive themes, crude humour, minimal blood, and infrequent use of mild language.

M (mature 17+) – may contain intense violence, blood and gore, sexual content, and strong language.

AO (Adults Only 18+) – Not suitable for people under 18, may contain prolonged scenes of intense violence, graphic sexual content, and nudity.
After looking into the different ratings I believe with great consideration for other ratings that my game would benefit from being rating as T (Teen) if reviewed by the Entertainment Software Rating Board.

I believe T (Teen) is the best rating for my game as I want the game to be educational in its mission to be a stimulatory anxiety experience so aiming towards teenagers and above gives the education/experience I'm trying to portray a bigger audience.
I don't believe my game could be rated any lower that Teen however, because of the nature of it as Virtual Reality first off is recommended by Oculus and other Virtual reality headset manufacturers that people should be 13 years of age or older to use their headsets and also due to the narrative of the game being a person who's dealing with Anxiety after WW1 violence and blood are considered to be used in certain areas of the game to portray anxiety and some bad language may be used in the game by certain characters to fit the time and setting of the narrative.
May Contain Mild Violence
Infrequent use of Blood and Gore
Anxiety inducing Moments
occasional use of strong language
